Cello lessons in The Hague
The cello is a wonderful instrument to play and listen to. It is very versatile: it can be played solo, in ensembles and orchestras, but you can also play the cello in a rock band. Many people choose the cello because they are attracted to its warm sound.
Rata Kloppenburg (1963) studied cello with Maria Hol, Dmitri Ferschtman and Jeroen Reuling. She studied theatre at the Utrecht School of the Arts and at Dartington College of Arts. She works with classical musicians on stage skills and performs as an acting musician.
Rata Kloppenburg has joined the Strijkdomein in The Hague, which, in addition to Rata, consists of Annemarie van Prooijen (violin), Nuno Torres Marquez (double bass) and Anne van Laar (cello). Samara Baumgärtner has also joined this group. She is a music therapist and plays the cello. People with disabilities or who require special treatment are in good hands with Samara Baumgärtner.

The cello lessons take place in room 2.10, which is fully equipped for the cello!
[X]You can choose from a solo lesson of 30, 45, or 60 minutes. If you choose duo/trio lessons, you’ll get 40 minutes for two people or 60 minutes for three people.
Advanced students can take lessons every two weeks.

Rata Kloppenburg teaches on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. Anne van Laar teaches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between approximately 2 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. For adults, there are group lessons on Wednesday mornings and Friday mornings.Rata Kloppenburg geeft les op de dinsdagen en donderdagen tussen 15.00 en 21.30 uur. The same prices apply to adults, but they also pay 21% VAT on top of that.

At Strijkdomein (see also “About the teacher” and “Teaching location”), we offer cello lessons to everyone, young or old, advanced or beginner. People with disabilities or who require special treatment can contact Samara Baumgärtner, our music therapist who also plays the cello.
[X]I love giving duo and trio lessons. But for some people, it’s just better to have lessons all by themselves, and that’s fine too. Whichever format you choose, there are plenty of opportunities to play with others throughout the year. In our six weeks of group lessons or at our three presentation moments per year. Adults can play along in the cello ensemble Cellissimo!
[X]We start with a warm-up; something easy that helps you reconnect with your body and the cello. Then we move on to something challenging, something technical that we are currently working on. The rest of the lesson is spent playing the music of your choice. There is also always time to practise your orchestra or ensemble parts.
About six times a year, we have group lesson week. Then you can choose between an ensemble lesson or a technical lesson. Three times a year, there is a presentation where you can choose to play a solo or join a group.
