Violin lessons in The Hague

The violin is a beautiful instrument, not only to look at but especially to play. Many composers have written the most beautiful solos for this instrument. The violin is also very easy to play with others, with piano accompaniment, in small ensembles or in a large orchestra. And this is possible at all levels.

About the teacher

Quirine van Hoek (1986) began violin lessons at the age of six at the Hengelo Music School with Akke Wiersma. In 2000, she was admitted to the Van Zweden School of Music, where she studied with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho. She continued her studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho and then at the Utrecht Conservatoire with Chris Duindam, where she obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with honours. She took many masterclasses with Mauricio Fuks, Ivry Gitlis, Liviu Prunaru and the Alban Berg Quartet, among others. She is the first violinist of the Grazia Quartet and violinist of a special duo with accordion: ‘De Thuiskomst’ (The Homecoming). She has performed as a soloist with various orchestras in concerts by Mozart, Bruch, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky, among others, and is regularly asked to play in orchestras such as the Residentie Bach Orchestra, the Gelders Orchestra and the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam.

For whom

Age plays no role whatsoever in playing the violin, not even when starting out. One thing is certain: you can start at a young age. Special violins are available for purchase or hire for small children. Once their hands and arms have grown a little, they can move on to a larger size violin. Of course, lessons are also available for advanced players or those who have taken a break from playing the violin and want to pick it up again. And true enthusiasts who want to prepare for conservatory are also very welcome.

Individual or group lessons

Because every student needs their own approach, lessons will mainly be given individually. An exception can be made for young children who start at the same time. If they prefer to have lessons together for a while, they can switch to individual lessons later on.

Structure and/or content of the lessons

Enjoyment will always be paramount in the lessons. However, because the violin is not an easy instrument, dedication and diligence will also be required from the student. Once a good technical foundation has been established, the possibilities are endless. The wishes of the student will always be taken into account.
