Recorder lessons in The Hague
Brechtje Roos encourages adult recorder players of all levels to discover their own musical path, so that they can enjoy making music. Interpretation lessons are also available for flute, clarinet and violin players with at least one year of lessons who want to make music from the notes.
‘Brechtje helps you turn random notes into music. Yes, she knows a lot about music and is a bubbling fountain of knowledge, which is very enriching. On top of that, she does something essential. She brings out the music in you. In me. By letting me feel what matters in the pieces. Out of your head, into the music.’ Geeske, 51 years old, online and offline lessons with Brechtje
At a young age, Brechtje Roos discovered the warm and sweet sound of recorders and the power of music. Inspired by her teacher at music school, she developed her playing and reached the highest level. She studied recorder at the conservatories of The Hague and Utrecht. Since 1999, she has been a professional musician with diplomas in Teaching & Performing Music with a specialisation in Chamber Music and Early Music.
Brechtje was taught by greats and pioneers in the field of Early Music, of whom Jeanette van Wingerden was the most important to her. Jeanette encouraged her growth and exploration. She gave Brechtje an ear for detail, nuance and subtlety, and inspired her to enjoy playing.
With the ensembles Pétillant, Zimbello and Blaes-tuigh, Brechtje performed at home and abroad until 2010 and created idiosyncratic, seriously light-hearted concert and theatre programmes for, among others, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.
In addition to performing on stage, Brechtje has had her own private teaching practice since 1992. Passing on, stimulating and developing experiences, musical enjoyment and knowledge is the common thread in her music lessons. She teaches nuance, the finer points of playing the recorder and making music together. She helps other instrumentalists to gain a deeper understanding of music. Interpretation, if you will. From absolute beginners to professionals: everyone has a unique musical story to tell, and Brechtje helps players discover and develop that story during inspiring music lessons.
Students come from the Randstad to the studio in The Hague on the border with Rijswijk. Free parking during the day and public transport a 2-minute walk away. Home tuition is possible under certain conditions. Online lessons are given to students throughout the country.
[X]Usually, one-hour lessons are chosen so that there is peace and quiet and enough attention to immerse oneself in the music. Double lessons are even given on request. A ticket system gives the student freedom in terms of lesson frequency.
[X]Brechtje specialises in teaching recorder and interpretation to adults. Both beginners and advanced recorder players are welcome. If you have been playing another melodic instrument for about two years, Brechtje can teach you about the musical aspects of music, such as interpretation, ensemble playing and articulation. Brechtje’s many years of experience as a musician, music storyteller and music teacher mean that she lives and breathes music (and everything that goes with it). And she passes this on to her students. The musical focus is on classical music, folk music and free improvisation.
[X]Private lessons and thematic group workshops are mainly offered.
[X]Lessons are always tailored to the student. Material is offered depending on abilities and preferences. Playing with sheet music and improvising, a relaxed posture and breathing, good playing technique, greater insight into music, listening to each other and the satisfaction that all this brings are always covered in both recorder lessons and interpretation lessons.
