Double bass lessons in Amsterdam
The double bass is the lowest string instrument. It has been around since the 16th century and originated from the need to support the pedal notes of the organ within the ensemble.
Since then, the instrument has developed enormously into what we know today, thanks to composers, virtuoso players and bass builders. It has become completely emancipated and has outgrown its role of merely providing the harmonic foundation. Nevertheless, its supporting function is still extremely important and meaningful in any orchestra, ensemble or band today. At the same time, more and more solo and chamber music pieces are being written for the double bass, expanding its possibilities.
Kandinsky once said, ‘Azure resembles a flute, blue a cello… when it gets darker, it reminds one of the charming sound of the double bass’.

Experience with orchestra, contemporary and early music, but also as a teacher at a music school.
Use of resonanzlehre as a support tool, a technique developed especially for musicians by Thomas Lange. It connects movement, breath and sound.
We can use this freely, depending on your wishes and interests.
The lessons take place at my home in Amsterdam Watergraafsmeer, very close to Science Park station.
In consultation, we can also consider where it is most convenient for the student.
Private double bass lessons last 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the student’s wishes and the frequency of lessons.
The frequency of lessons is determined in consultation with the student. Beginner double bassists and/or children are advised to have a short lesson every week.
For advanced or adult students, this can be more flexible; we can work together to find what suits best.
The lessons are arranged in consultation with the pupils..
[X]The rates are €60 for a 60-minute lesson, €45 for a 45-minute lesson, and €30 for a 30-minute lesson. Payment can be made for each lesson or per quarter.

I offer lessons to children, adults, amateurs, preparation for conservatory as well as orchestra auditions.
The double bass lessons are individual lessons. This allows us to give your sound, technique and musicality the attention they need to flourish. In addition, you will of course quickly start playing together, for example in duets with me or with piano, in an orchestra or in an ensemble.
[X]The structure and content of the lessons are tailored entirely to the level, development, interests and any specific goals of the student. The double bass has a very enjoyable and wonderful function in small and large ensembles. Once you have mastered the basic techniques, you can play many beautiful and varied pieces.
