Playing with music in Nijmegen
Playing with Music is intended for children aged 4 to 6 years old. They come to class without their parents/carers, or occasionally with them. During the 45-minute class, we sing, move to music, play with small instruments and listen to music. We also do playful AMV activities, such as becoming aware of “big differences” (musical contrasts), working with rhythm building blocks, notation forms, etc. There is a fixed opening and closing song that provides structure for the children. In between, there are various songs and games based on a theme. And last but not least: having fun with music together!
Children love music. Musical education is beneficial for young children; it enriches them. Singing, playing, moving and listening together promotes social and emotional development. It also stimulates the development of the voice, musical memory, movement, language and comprehension, and rhythmic and melodic development. During Play with Music, general music education (AMV) is taught in a relaxed and enjoyable way, and the children also learn lots of new, fun songs. Attention is paid to picking up the starting note, starting and ending together, and we also do voice training games. Children aged 4 to 6 develop musically in a playful way with the right programme. Afterwards, children can choose music lessons on an instrument or instrument orientation, an AMV course, a children’s choir, etc.
In the Playing with Music course, the children receive a folder in which they can keep the songs and other music information.

[X]Playing with Music is a group lesson in which parents/carers attend the entire 3 to 4 lessons and also the last 10 minutes of each lesson, so that they can clearly see what we have been doing. The maximum number of children per group is 12.
[X]The Play-with-Music lessons also include a greeting and farewell song, and each week the children learn a new song (both well-known and lesser-known), engage in playful AMV (general music education) activities, move to music and play with various small instruments. All of this is based around a theme such as water, gnomes, parties, my voice, animals, etc. Each course covers two themes.
