Cello lessons in The Hague
The cello is a wonderful instrument to play and listen to. It is very versatile: it can be played solo, in ensembles and orchestras, but you can also play the cello in a rock band. Many people choose the cello because they are attracted to its warm sound.
Anne van Laar (1964) studied cello with Maria Hol, Ran Varon and Christopher Bunting. She then went on to complete all five levels of the Suzuki Cello Method in London. Since 2005, she has also been a Suzuki Cello Teacher Trainer, which means she is qualified to train other cello teachers in this method.
Anne van Laar has joined the Strijkdomein in The Hague, which, in addition to Anne, consists of Annemarie van Prooijen (violin), Nuno Torres Marquez (double bass) and Rata Kloppenburg (cello). Samara Baumgärtner has also joined this group. She is a music therapist and plays the cello. People with disabilities or who require special treatment are in good hands with Samara Baumgärtner.
[X]Anne van Laar and her colleagues from Strijkdomein Annemarie van Prooijen (violin), Nuno Torres Marquez (double bass), Rata Kloppenburg (cello) and Samara Baumgärtner (music therapy/cello) teach at Koorenhuis, Prinsegracht 27 in the centre of The Hague. The cello lessons take place in room 2.10, which is fully equipped for the cello!
[X]Beginners can request a 40-minute duo lesson. If there is no partner of the same level, this will be a 20-minute individual lesson. More advanced students receive 30 minutes of instruction. Adult students can attend a class for adults, which takes place in the morning. They can also sign up for individual lessons.

At Strijkdomein (see also “About the teacher” and “Teaching location”), we offer cello lessons to everyone, young or old, advanced or beginner. People with disabilities or who require special treatment can contact Samara Baumgärtner, our music therapist who also plays the cello.
[X]Both Anne and Rata love giving duo and trio lessons. But for some, it’s just better to have lessons all by themselves, and that’s possible too, of course. Whichever format you choose, there are plenty of opportunities to play with others throughout the year. In our six weeks of group lessons or at our annual presentations. Adults can play in the cello ensemble Cellissimo!
[X]The Suzuki Method is a teaching method that allows you to start playing the cello from a very young age. We do this together with a parent and, of course, in a very playful way! Thanks to the many games and positive approach, it is also very suitable for all other ages! In addition to the standard repertoire, we play lots of other music, because learning to play the cello well is our priority. About six times a year, we have group lessons week. You can choose between ensemble playing or a technical lesson. Three times a year, there is a presentation where you can choose to play a solo or join a group. Just come and have a look, and you’ll know if you like it at Strijkdomein!
