Harp lessons in Nootdorp
The harp is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. In prehistoric times, people used their hunting bows as musical instruments, but these had only one string. Over thousands of years, this single-stringed hunting bow has developed into an impressive instrument with up to 47 strings. Many composers have been inspired by its beautiful sound and have composed for this instrument, either as a solo instrument, in an ensemble or in an orchestra. The harp is often used in classical music, but nowadays it also fits into other musical styles, such as pop or jazz.
Joukeline Sizoo (1988) began harp lessons at the age of 10 with Machteld Kerkmeester at the music school in Bergschenhoek. She then took private lessons with Carla Bos. She continued her harp studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Saskia Kingma, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2011 with a final grade of 9. She obtained her Master’s degree in 2013 at the same conservatory.
During and after her professional studies, she took lessons and masterclasses with Petra van der Heide, Edward Witsenburg, Rosetty de Ruiter, Sandrine Chatron, Park Stickney and Edmar Castañeda.
Joukeline plays in several chamber music ensembles. In 2010, she participated in a concert by the Calefax Reed Quintet, performing Ravel’s Introduction et Allegro.
In 2011, she performed live on Radio 4 with her flute-harp duo Duo Ivoire, and in 2013 they played at the Chamber Music Festival in The Hague.
Joukeline has played in orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, HET Symphony Orchestra, the North Netherlands Orchestra and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago.
